PHC ISO-1000 1000 Watts AC Isolation Transformer with Pass-Through Grounding

I ordered this transformer with the belief that it would be configured as a medical isolation transformer - for those who don't know, medical grade isolation transformers pass ground through and ground and neutral connect up the line - making them unsafe and unappealing for those who do electronics. Tech grade isolation transformers do not pass ground and therefore offer true isolation and therefore safety.What arrived was a very high quality isolation transformer, tech grade, without any ground on its plug. It's heavy, well constructed and I would highly recommend one to anyone looking for one.One thing worth noting is that if you order one and it arrives and smells absolutely horrible - like burnt tire - thats nothing abnormal for products like this and yes it stunk.

I'm just learning about these but mine came without the third prong ground on the inlet making me think this does not pass ground as other reviewers stated. Using it to isolate two class D amps, an AB class receiver, and an active subwoofer. I plugged this into a surge protector because these don't protect against AC line surges...About two weeks later and still waiting for the smell to die down.

I run a server rack at home full of computers and as with all switching power supplies they generate a BUTT load of harmonics back onto the mains. Placing each machine on it's own isolation transformer did the trick to eliminating all that noise in the rack. No more dirty power at least coming from my own equipment....now outside my home.....welll......that's a whole different mess to deal with.

The transformer was shipped on time and was as advertised. This is used in combination with my AC variac and works well. I would recommend this vendor to others

THIS 1000 WATTS ISOLATION TRANSFORMER IS VERY GOOD. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE WHO'S LOOKING INTO BUYING AN ISOLATION. I BOUGHT THIS TRANSFORMER FOR SAFETY REASONS.

Transformer came exceptionally well packaged, in a double box. Heavier than I expected. Vampire hysteresis power draw is 5 watts when isolation transformer turned on but with no external load. Line cord is 2-prong but polarized, appropriate here since it's a isolation transformer. So although the isolation transformer's single AC output socket will accept both 2-prong polarized and 3-prong grounded power plugs, the center pin socket is left floating (i.e., not connected). If a duplex 3-prong outlet had been used, the isolation would be defeated because even if no connection to a duplex socket's green ground terminal, the duplex socket mounting screws would still establish a common ground if a grounded power cord had been used. So use of a single 3-prong output socket, with the ground connection truly left unconnected (floating) is a good choice.
